About the Chef

HeadShotChefCoat1CropChef David Burt has been cooking in Iowa City for 20 years. With a continuing focus on local, organic, plant-based cuisine he is part of a grassroots movement towards a sustainable nutrition, agriculture and economy.

Chef David was a co-founder and executive chef of The Red Avocado (1999-2012), a restaurant famous for innovative vegan and seasonal fare. Before that he was schooled via numerous Iowa City restaurants.

A native of Edinburgh, Scotland, David has lived in Iowa City for over 20 years. He lives close to town with his wife and three children.

David currently serves as the President of the Board of Field to Family, a local foods advocacy and education group.
